Quite a number of Myanmar workers have gone abroad to work on a contractual basis, for limited periods of time.Many Myanmar workers secured employment overseas through their own efforts, perhaps with the help of business contacts or friends and relatives residing in the country concerned. Singapore, a country of about 4 million, has about 500,000 foreign workers, including Myanmar workers. Among them 2218 Myanmar workers have been sent to work in Singapore by the Department of Labour. About 300 Myanmar people go to Singapore every month for education or employment. |
